JOHN
WINFIELD MONSTED, M. D. A physician and surgeon of wide experience and thorough capabilities, Doctor Monsted has practiced at New
London and in
Waupaca County for the past six years. Prior to coming to New
London he followed his profession in
Dodge County.
Doctor Monsted was born at
Hartland,
Waukesha County,
Wisconsin, February 26, 1870, a son of 0. T. and Anna (
Landers) Monsted. His parents have lived in
Waukesha County since 1843, and his father was one of the pioneer farmers there.
One of three children, Doctor Monsted grew up on a farm, was educated in the public schools, and for three years taught school. His ambition was for a profession, and largely with means of his own earning he entered the Detroit
College of Medicine, where he was graduated M. D. in 1894. Immediately after his graduation he located for practice in
Dodge County and remained there for sixteen years. In 1910 he removed to New
London and has since acquired a large practice and high standing as a physician in that community. He is serving as a United States
Pension surgeon.
Doctor Monsted is a stockholder in the First National Bank of New
London, and for thirteen years was a republican county committeeman while living in
Dodge County. He is a member of the Congregational Church, belongs to the Masonic
Lodge, to the
Royal Arch Chapter and is a member of the Order of
Beavers. He is also first lieutenant Medical Reserve
Corps, and is an enthusiastic, and well known sharpshooter, having taken many prizes for his skill.
During WWI he served at Camp Robinson (now Camp McCoy) for 2 years.
In 1895 he married Miss Beatrice
Nixon of
Fergus, Ontario, Canada. Doctor and Mrs. Monsted have three children, John W. Jr., Robert and Beatrice.
