Born 2 miles from Enniskillen, County Fermaugh, Province of Ulster, Northern Ireland. In 1839 he immigrated to Albion Township, Peel Co., Ontario, Canada, Settling on Lot 3, con.. 4 Albion Twp. In 1841 he secured title to 100 acres for 56 Pounds. His farm was near Mono Road, between Bolton and Brampton.
Both he and his wife became devout Methodists. He donated the N.E. corner of his homestead as a site for a church building, known for years as "Beatty's Church" and was used by Anglicans and Presbyterians as well. He was known locally as "Father Beatty", also as "Squire George", and eulogised at his funeral as "one of the old-fashioned Christians who believe in repentance, faith and keeping the Commandments".
