Born in Peel County, Ontario, he was educated in nearby Mackville public school. He left home at 18 to apprentice at Haggert Bros., manufacturers in Brampton, 10 miles from the Beatty farmsted. Founded Beatty Bros., Limited in 1874 with brother Matthew in Fergus, Ontario.
Son of George & Ann Beatty; husband of Martha Rutherford, married Jan. 18th, 1876 at Peel County.
Co-founder [with brother, Matthew] of Beatty Brothers Limited, circa 1874 at Fergus, Ontario. Beatty Bros. manufactured farming equipment, water pumps, washing machines, ladders, and various other household appliances. As their product base and facilities expanded, Beatty Bros Ltd. would eventually employ over 1500 people.
George was a staunch follower of the Temperance movement and forbade his employees to drink alcohol.
The Old Fergus Swimming Pool was one of George & Matthew's philanthropic contributions to the town of Fergus.
